How The Eye Can Predict Disease
The eye may seem to be one of the many organs in our bodies that are obviously important to our health. One of the main focuses of attention for the doctor whenever you visit him is the eye. He will quickly pull out the light, and check the condition of your eye, for this will in the long run show some diagnostics of what the problem might be. This procedure is quite normal, but in many cases, there are other ways in which the eye is a great tool for finding the issues that our bodies are facing. In a word, the eye might be a diagnostic tool, able to detect so much more than what many doctors would have known it would detect. This article gives a recap of some of the other ways in which the human eye can be used to point out problematic conditions in the rest the body.
One of the spots that may show symptoms of health issues is the eyebrow. Whenever the eyebrow disappears, there is reason to believe that the patient is suffering from thyroid disease. Though sometimes it may seem normal, a bulging eye can be a predictor of a disease. The person who shows this sign is usually suffering from hyperthyroidism. This is mainly caused by the continuous over activity of the thyroid gland.
Another way to detect an anomaly in the body is if there is a stye on one’s eye that does not go away after some few months of persistence. If the stye disappears but keeps on recurring for some time, there is a good chance that the patient might be suffering from a rare cancer of the glands. Also, another way of spotting an infection in the body is simply by noticing that the eye is constantly burning and losing its vision, especially whenever a person is using a computer for long periods. The reason why this might be happening is because the eye is being forced to focus too much on the pixels of the computer, thus causing what is termed as computer vision syndrome. One should be careful to properly adjust the contrast of the computer to avoid such a condition.
There is a group of symptoms that will be a leading cause of headache, which is a sign that the patient is suffering from migraine aura. This is usually the case whenever the patient is having a blind spot in his vision, together with wavy lines appearing while looking at something else. In addition, the patient might be seeing a shimmering light accompanying the occurrence of the headache.
Yet another call for concern comes in when one notices that the white of the eye has suddenly turned yellow. Whenever this occurs, it means that the patient suffers from jaundice. It is a condition that takes prevalence in new born babies, whose livers are not properly working. It is also present in adults and can be a major pointer that either their gallbladder, bile duct or their liver has a malfunction.
These are just but a number of eye conditions that may save someone’s life if detected early and diagnosed properly.
