Some Homemade Solutions for Eye Styes

Having an eye stye is no fun at all.  It is basically a swelling or pimple that forms on the eyelid and can be very annoying.  Not only will it look like your eye is swollen but it also can itch and cause a lot of eye irritation as well.  But you need to be careful not to scratch it or cause it to burst because that will cause the infection to spread.  This is why you should be using separate towels, soaps, and any other thing that touches your eye so that your eye stye does not spread to other members of your family or household.

How do you get an eye stye?  It’s usually caused by staphylococcal bacteria which can be transferred from the nose to the eye.  It happens most often when someone has a cold and this bacteria is easily transferred to the eyes because of the constant nose blowing and wiping.  But poor hygiene or even just an eye infection can lead to an eye stye so it can come from many places.

There are a few things you can try to treat your eye stye, but as always you should consult with your doctor first to ensure your safety.

Triphala water can help treat eye styes if you know where to find it.  It’s a powder that you can mix with water and let it sit and then try to wash your eyes out with it.

Many people have said that coriander seed has helped a lot as well.  Just put 1 teaspoon of coriander seed in a cup of boiling water and then let it cool.  You can use this solution to wash out your eyes.

Who knows if this homemade remedie for eye styes actually works, but some people have said it does.  Just take some wet teabags that are semi-warm and place them over your eyes for 8-10 minutes at a time.  You can do this as often as you would like.  Most say that more than curing the eye stye, it helps to just offer some relief for a while.

To help take the swelling down you can try making a paste out of a potato and let the paste sit on your infected eyes for a while.

If you can find some turmeric at the herbal store you can use it to help heal your stye quickly.  But you will want to use it cautiously.  Boil 1 teaspoon of turmeric in 2 cups of water and then strain any excess turmeric out of the water with a cloth.  Once you have all the granules out of the water you can use the water as eye drops a few times a day.

Some people swear by guava leaves as well.  Just warm them up and put them right over your eyelids or put them on a warm cloth to place over your eyes.  This is supposed to help with the swelling from an eye stye as well as aid in the healing process.
